The Montessori Project
When I described this class project to a mother whose child I babysit, the mother lit up and informed me that she herself had attended a Montessori school. "I have two best friends from that class now," she said. "One of them, now a teacher, was always in the reading center. The other was so interested in all things science, and is now a doctor. I loved the mathematical work and now I'm an accountant. It's remarkable. I want to look into Montessori for my own children as well."
Since that initial conversation, I have met another mother in the midst of research for her own 4-year-old's schooling; a mother whose 18-year-old daughter attended Montessori through 8th grade and loved it; a collection of helpful teachers, and even more Montessori students, whose spirit and enthusiasm were remarkable to observe in the classroom.
I am not a certified Montessori teacher; nor am I an expert in this curriculum. In the spirit of the Montessori approach to learning, I have pursued a topic of interest and this is the resulting product of my work. It is my hope that this website will help parents and teachers alike to understand the main components and advantages of a Montessori education.
